Coverages for Commercial Auto Insurance in Louisiana

Commericial Auto Liability

Liability insurance is the basic, commercial auto insurance Louisiana businesses can obtain. It covers injuries or damage to other people or property if you’re at fault for an accident.

If you cause an accident that injures or even kills another person, the Bodily Injury (BI) portion of your Liability insurance will pay for the related expenses. Bodily Injury (BI) will cover hospital and medical bills, rehabilitation, long-term nursing care, funeral expenses, lost earnings, pain and suffering, and other expenses, up to the limits you select.

If you cause an accident that damages another person’s property, the Property Damage (PD) portion of your Liability insurance will pay for the related expenses. Property Damage (PD) will cover the expense to repair or replace damaged items, including other vehicles, lampposts, houses or even a pet, up to the limits you select.

Liability insurance also will pay for your legal defense costs if you are sued as a result of your involvement with the accident.[top]

Physical Damage

Physical Damage is a general term for a group of insurance coverages that protect your vehicle. This general term includes Collision insurance, as well as your choice of full Comprehensive insurance or the more limited Fire and Theft with Combined Additional Coverage (CAC) insurance.

Collision insurance provides protection for your vehicle if it is damaged in an accident. Collision insurance pays to repair or replace your vehicle if it:

  • Collides with another object
  • Overturns or rolls

Comprehensive insurance provides protection for your vehicle if it is damaged by something other than a collision with a vehicle or object, or if your vehicle is stolen.

Fire and Theft with CAC provides similar protection to that of Comprehensive insurance, except its coverage is limited to certain specific, non-collision incidents. Fire and Theft with CAC does not cover windshield claims. [top]

Medical Payments Insurance or MedPay Insurance

Medical Payments coverage, also known as MedPay coverage, pays medical expenses for you and any passengers in your vehicle who are injured during an accident or auto-related injury.

Medical Payments coverage protects you regardless of who caused the accident.

Who Needs Medical Payments coverage?

Since Medical Payments coverage protects you, your family, your employees and other passengers in your car, it can be an important insurance to help protect both you and those you care about.

Medical Payments coverage is mandatory in some states and not available in other states or situations. Contact us to learn what coverage options are available for your business. [top]

Uninsured Motorist Insurance

for your business.

Depending on the state, Uninsured Motorist insurance may be three separate insurance coverages that are typically categorized together:

  • Lost wages
  • Pain and suffering

Underinsured Motorist insurance (UIM)

Underinsured Motorist insurance (UIM) pays for injuries, such as medical expenses, that result from an accident caused by a driver who has too little insurance to cover all of the injuries. In some states, UIM is part of UM.

Trailer Interchange insurance provides Physical Damage insurance for trailers being pulled under a trailer interchange agreement. This is essentially Physical Damage insurance for non-owned trailers.
